The Scottish writer Lewis Grassic Gibbon also wrote a novel entitled Spartacus, under his real name of James Leslie Mitchell. It was published in 1933. Howard Fast's novel was the one on which the 1960 film was based. Arthur Koestler's The Gladiators (1939) was also about Spartacus.
